Highlights

The Pixels have found a new successor. Google’s Pixel series hasn’t really lived-up to its billing as of now even after two iterations have passed us by. The third iteration which comprises of the Google Pixel 3 and Google Pixel 3 XL are here to set the record straight. We’re focusing on the Pixel 3 for now with the smartphone set to cost you around Rs. 100,000+ on launch.

Breaks the trend of bezel-less smartphones

When most of the smartphone manufacturers like Oppo, Vivo, Xiami etc. are turning their attention towards building entirely bezel-less smartphones with all-front covering displays, Google has decided to take the backseat and continue on with bezelled smartphones. We’re not sure if that’s the best idea though as we do feel that the Pixel 3 looks fine from the front but when it comes to its back panel, we’re not that impressed by its looks.

The build quality however of the device is extremely good with the smartphone featuring an all-aluminum body with partial glass at the back. A 7.9mm width is good enough while IP67 waterproofing is an added bonus.

What’s up with the display?

The smartphone features a 5.4 inches P-OLED capacitive touchscreen with 447ppi pixel density and Corning Gorilla Glass protection. Aspect ratio of the display stands at 18.5:9 while the pixel density ensures that you get to enjoy a 1080p HD resolution. The display also offers 95% DCI-P3 which equates to a wide colour gamut meaning that display is capable of displaying almost any colour combinations. Nothing new here as we’ve seen all this before but the wide colour gamut ensures that the smartphone produces graphics of the highest quality.

Dual selfie sensor but a singular primary one

The Pixel 3 is something different in the sense that it hasn’t fallen for 2018’s mainstream trends. That translated into the fact that the smartphone features a single-sensor primary camera that’s something we’ve rarely seen in flagships come 2018.

Delving deeper into it, the smartphone features a power and feature-laden 12.2 MP sensor with dual pixel phase detection and laser autofocus plus optical image stabilization or OIS. The selfie sensor houses a dual 8 MP sensor that ensures total satisfaction whether you’re snapping landscapes or selfies from the Google Pixel 3.

The strongest point of the Pixels is always their hardware

Undoubtedly, Google has always stuffed satisfactory hardware ino their Pixel devices. The Pixel 3 is no different as an octa-core processor with 6 gigs of RAM powers the latest built-in Android P (whose final name is yet to be decided). Internal storage of the smartphone stands at either 64 or 128 gigs while other useful features include USB type-C, rear-mounted fingerprint scanner, fast charging and three colur schemes namely blue, black and white.
