Samsung done. OnePlus done and now its Google’s turn to release their flagships for the year 2018. As has been the case for the past 2 years or so, Google’s come-up with two devices of which we’ll be focusing on the Pixel 3 XL for now. The smartphone’s the bigger of the two and will roughly set you back Rs. 150,000 on launch.

A mix between bezel-less and the Nexus 5X from the front

On first sightings, the Pixel 3 XL looked like a spooky gadget from the front. The notch coupled with the bottom bezel featuring a Nexus 5X like grill brought back fond memories of the famous device. We do feel that Google could’ve gone for an entire front display design without the bottom bezel but we can’t complain if the company wanted to make a statement of its own.

The entire body’s aluminum with a 7.9mm width and partial glass back. We’ll leave it up to you to decide whether it looks pleasing or lacks something.

The almost all-front display

The smartphone’s all-front display features a large 6.2 inches P-OLED capacitive touchscreen with 533ppi pixel density. Allowing a staggering 1440p HD resolution atop the nearly all conquering display, it’s safe to say that you’ll be served with some of the best graphics the smartphone world, particularly Google has to offer.

A 100% DCI-P3 coverage equates to what Apple likes to call it “wide colour gamut” while Corning Gorilla Glass 5 adds to the display’s strength.

Cameras: inherited from the Pixel 3

Just like the Pixel 3, the Pixel 3 XL takes a break from the euphoria surrounding dual primary camera sensors and instead chooses to go with a single primary sensor. The selfie sensor is a dual one and both of these are touted to do extremely well.

Speaking in-depth, the smartphone features a powerful 12.2 MP primary sensor with phase detection and laser autofocus, optical image stabilization, LED flash and other customary camera features. The presence of OIS and PDAF ensures snapping of the highest order while the dual 8 MP selfie sensor ensures that your selfies capture each and every detail to its fullest.

Hardware up there with the fullest

As per Google’s promise, the Pixel 3 XL is filled with powerful hardware; an octa-core processor powers the built-in Android P with 6 gigs of RAM also in attendance. If the Android P is a new name for you, it’s Android’s latest iteration. Its official name hasn’t been released yet but the biggest tech blogs out there expect it to be one of Pancake, Parfait, Popsicle, Pop-tart, Pavlova or Peppermint.

The internal storage of the device stands at either 64 or 128 gigs with no external card slot available. USB type-C makes for superfast data transfer while a rear-mounted fingerprint scanner, non-removable battery and three colour schemes in black, white and blue rounding-off the Pixel 3 XL.
