Highlights

LG has been missing quite a few known names in the budget smartphones category and it seems they’ve finally realized that. Out came four K series releases of which the K4 2017 somewhat lies in the middle of its 4 siblings but where does it stand in the tech world?

The K4 2017 is the successor to the LG K4 from last year.

Build quality and display

The K4 2017 is closer to its cheaper sibling, the K3 2017, in almost every aspect especially the design. This is because the smartphone features no volume rocker or power button at the back panel just like its aforementioned sibling but what it does is that it comprises primarily out of plastic while we were very happy to see its toned down dimensions; we’re talking 135g of mass with an 8mm waist *whistles*

The smartphone’s display features a 5.0 inches IPS LCD capacitive touchscreen with 196ppi pixel density. This translates into a rather disappointing 480p resolution that simply shouldn’t even be a part of a brand new release come 2017. That’s definitely not what we’re used to seeing from LG.

Cameras

The K4 2017’s cameras differ by a small but noticeable margin. While both of their primary sensors may stand at 5 megapixels with LED flashes, geo-tagging, touch focus and face detection, it’s their secondary sensors that draw a line between them; the K4 2017 features a large 5 megapixel sensor that stands toe to toe with its primary counterpart definitely giving you a small reason to smile about.

Hardware and software

The K4 2017 is powered by a Quad-Core 1.1 GHz Cortex-A53 processor with 1GB of RAM only. If you haven’t guessed it by now, this amount of processing muscle might be fine for Windows Phone OS but definitely not for the built-in Android Marshmallow.

Its internal storage banks at a meagre 8GB of which around 4.5 gigs will be available to the user for their personal apps, photos etc. but fear not, an external memory card slot is present. We’d advise caution with external memory cards as they vehemently slow smartphones down so please use smaller ones for better performance. Last but not the least, the K4 2017 signs off by showing off its 2500 mAh battery.
