Highlights

Samsung is arguably the company that covers most of the market share, when it comes to Android powered devices and there’s a reason for that. Samsung aren’t always competing with Apple to make a device that can stand up to the iPhone, but are also looking to make phones for all types of classes. Galaxy A8 Duos, along with its single sim partner, are phablets which are not as premium as the Galaxy Note series and are targeted towards a market that can’t afford the expensive phones. Let’s see what the A8 has to offer.

The Galaxy A8 has a familiar look and instantly gives you an impression that it belongs to the latest generation of Samsung phones. It has a 5.7” display which is 0.2 inches bigger than its predecessor and has the same Full HD resolution. The Super AMOLED display gives a typical Samsung experience in terms of display and the screen has a Corning Gorilla Glass 4 protection.

A8 comes with Android Lollipop 5.1 out of the box and is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 615. The chipset offers 64-bit processors in two quad-core Cortex-A53s at 1.8 and 1.3 GHz. The graphics unit, Adreno 405, is the same as that on the A7. Like the trend in most phones, one of the dual sim slots can be used for memory expansion and is expandable up to 128 GB compared to the 64GB slot on the A7. Internal storage has doubled at 32GB but the RAM didn’t get an upgrade, which is still at 2 GB.

The rear-camera is at 16 megapixels, 3 more than the A7, and has a slightly better aperture for a better low-light performance. In terms of video, it can only record 1080p at 30 frames per second. The front-camera is a similar story with 5 megapixels but a better aperture as it captures much more light than the one on A7.

The A8 gets an upgrade in terms of battery with an extra 450 mAh compared to the 2600 mAh on the A7 which means more talk time, music playback, and standby time. There are other phones in this price bracket that can offer better performance but this one is for the people who want to use an affordable Samsung Phablet.
