Sony’s waited a year behind enemy lines to come-up with the exciting Xperia XA1. Commanding a price-tag of around 60,000 rupees and hitting the shelves in April 2017, let’s examine what’s all the fuss about the XA1?

Design wise, we don’t see many changes from Sony apart from the fact that the size of the smartphone’s bezels has somewhat increased compared to older releases such as the Xperia Z5 Premium. Other than that, the dual-glass panels design has also been compromise in favor of more metal which has excellently benefited the smartphone’s dimensions; a 143g weight and an 8mm width.

We’re a little bummed by its display

Why? That’s because while reading its specifications, we were very happy until we came across a 720p resolution. Despite housing a 5.0 inches IPS LCD capacitive touchscreen, we did expect at-least a 1080p resolution display. However, we’re not taking anything away from its prowess; it’s just that we expected it be a little sharper.

Plenty of firepower in the cameras department

Sony and large camera sensors share an old affection for one another. The XA1 is merely a continuation of that as its primary camera features a 23 megapixel sensor with sumptuous camera features that include phase detection and laser autofocus. Geo-tagging, touch focus, face/smile detection, HDR and panorama happily tag along while the selfie camera features an 8 megapixel sensor that’s exactly what the doctor ordered.

Processing power mirrors the cameras department

The Xperia XA1 is powered by 8 cores of processing power with 3 gigs of RAM. That’s perfect for the built-in Android Nougat while 32 gigs of internal storage is awesome to say the least. Complying with all the traits of a modern smartphone bar a fingerprint scanner, you do get USB type-C and fast charging. A dual-SIM variant is also available up for grabs while 4 different color schemes and a 2300 mAh non-removable battery finishes-off the XA1 in some style.
