If you haven’t heard about Alcatel yet, get onboard as we’ll not only enlighten you about this company but also one of its premier releases. This Chinese manufacturer is building itself on similar lines just like its other Chinese counterparts. Releases such as the Idol 4 have directly thrown the company into the limelight and we were very impressed by what we saw in the Idol 4 on our first glance at the smartphone.
Build quality and display
The Alcatel Idol 4 is basically a smaller and more affordable sibling of the Idol 4s. Both of these smartphones are exactly like what the iPhone 6S and 6S Plus are to each other. The Idol 4 features similar build quality to its larger counterpart with the two front and back glass panels. Corning Gorilla Glass 3 is its designated protector and a metallic frame makes peace between the two glass panels.
Speaking of its display, it features a 2.5D curved 5.2 inches display. The company uses LTPS IPS LCD capacitive technology with 424ppi pixel density which translates into a beautiful 1080p HD resolution. Its dimensions are pretty neat as well with a sleek 7.1mm width and we were simply awestruck by its 135g weight. This was pretty hard to fathom considering the smartphone has a metallic and all glass build.
Cameras
The cameras also seem to keep happiness moving forward with the Idol 4 as it features a 13 megapixel primary sensor with phase detection autofocus and a dual-tone LED flash. Phase detection is a pretty powerful aspect of any camera so you can expect good photography on the go.
The selfie camera features an 8 megapixel sensor with an LED flash. Front facing LED’s are slowly growing into the market nowadays and we’re happy to see Alcatel embracing this trend.
Hardware and software
The smartphone is powered by an Octa-Core processor but RAM is variant dependent; both come in with 16GB of internal storage but RAM varies between 2 or 3GB. Get your hands on the 3GB one to ensure that the built-in Android Marshmallow isn’t spared any mercy. Fast Charge is another plus while you might be wondering where did the fingerprint sensor go. So are we!
