Highlights

BlackBerry has been having quite a tough time in the recent times with their phones not being in as much limelight as they used to be. The market has moved more towards the touchscreen panels becoming the only type of input source and not actual physical buttons other than the power buttons and volume controls. However, BlackBerry tries to get itself back in the market with a full touch screen experience but not forgetting the QWERTY keyboard their users love to use. If this doesn’t win them some users back, then nothing will.

The Priv has a curved display, concealing the QWERTY keyboard under that slides out for users who like the feeling of pushing some buttons and not just touching screens. The Priv has a 5.4” AMOLED Quad HD display which means a really high pixel density and super crispness, protected by the Corning Gorilla Glass 4 protection. It has a Nano-SIM slot and a dedicated microSD expansion slot that can go up to 200 GB of memory.

The Priv runs Android Lollipop (5.1.1) OS and is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 808 chipset. The chipset has two processors on board, namely the dual-core Cortex-A57 and the quad-core Cortex-A53 clocked at 1.8 and 1.44 GHz respectively. They are accompanied by Adreno 418 graphics to deliver a power packed experience for users who don’t want any hiccups in their usage. It has 3 gigs of RAM to go along with the powerful specifications that will make the device only smoother to switch in between apps and such tasks.

The camera is also a unique one with an 18 megapixels sensor, making use of Schieder-Kreuznach optics to get the best of pictures, accompanied by optical image stabilization and dual-LED flash. The f/2.2 wide aperture also helps in taking great photos in the daytime and better than most at night time thanks to the OIS. The front camera is a bit of a disappointment, as it’s only 2 MP but still produces decent results. In terms of video recording, the phone does record 4K video at 30 frames per second.

The battery is a strong point in the Priv as it is clocked at 3410 mAh which is a juicy one compared to some of the other flagships and will surely last a day of use easily. It is, however, non-removable but the features like Quick Charge 2.0 and Wireless Charging help nullify that factor.
