High-Tech Computers or HTC has lost some of its mantle that it commanded a few years back because of its recent dip in form. The Desire 728, not a flagship by any means, seems like a decent attempt to capture the peoples’ attention by targeting the lower-mid range market. Debuting with Dual-SIM capability and a larger display than what most people would expect, it might turn out to be what you’re looking for.

Body and Display

HTC Desire 728’s body is primarily composed of hard plastic which has become synonymous with many other HTC devices. The back comprises entirely of this material with the HTC monogram sitting pretty in its middle whereas the front features a larger than life 5.5 inches Super LCD2 capacitive touchscreen display.

The display puts the 728 on the border of the phablet category which is excellent news for people who prefer larger displays amid budget constraints but we’re not entirely convinced by its 267ppi pixel density. The images are likely to be less sharp but 720p resolution is a small cause of joy.

Camera

The 728’s camera is a pretty imposing one because of its large 13 megapixel and f/2.2 aperture sensor with LED flash but unfortunately, it doesn’t really offers competitive camera features such as phase detection and OIS which takes a little bit gloss off its primary camera. The secondary camera features a 5.0 megapixel plus f/2.8 aperture lens that should be okay for the mammoth 5.5 inches touchscreen.

OIS, phase detection and laser-autofocus apart, the HTC Desire 728’s camera do enough to merit a good recommendation from us considering HTC’s pedigree in producing excellent camcorders.

Hardware and Software

At first when we looked at its hardware on paper, we didn’t really understand as to how would the Desire 728 fare in mobilizing its built-in Android v5.1.1 OS in an effective manner. The Octa-core 1.3 GHz Cortex-A53 processor powered by 2GB of dedicated RAM seems like a lot of muscle but we do have our aforementioned reservations about its all-round performance. Nevertheless, price is a huge consideration and with an asking price of around 21k optimized exclusively by our website, it can be your cup of tea.
