Huawei’s Y series is a budget smartphone oriented set of smartphones in which most of the devices are almost identical to one another. There’s nothing much to choose between them and all of them are separated by the tiniest of margins. The Ascend Y511 is another part of the Y series jigsaw and it doesn’t really differs much to its siblings.
The thing about budget smartphones is that for the manufacturers to cut their costs, they have to develop something that gives the most in the amount agreed for it. This leads to a lot of compromises, both in its schematics and design, which brings with it its own set of problems and underperformance. The Y511 is just what symbolizes this concept and this is how.
In this price range, Smartphones generally come in with displays that range between 4.0 to 5.0 inches. Y511’s display is a 4.5 inches IPS LCD capacitive touchscreen with a 218 ppi pixel density. The display size is fine but the ppi could’ve been better. Speaking of its processor, Huawei’s much loved Dual-core 1.3 GHz Cortex-A7 proudly takes its place inside the Y511 supported by 512MB of RAM. The RAM is fragile and we’re hoping manufacturers would ditch it altogether as it is simply not good enough to smoothly support a heavy operating system such as Android.
The primary camera is a disappointment because of its 3.2 megapixel sensor. We mostly bag 5.0 megapixel cameras within this price but fortunately, the selfie camera is present. Though it is VGA quality, we’d urge you to be happy about it being a part of the Ascend Y511. The internal storage weighs in at 4GB which is what we’re accustomed to get in this sort of price but we do recall getting 8 gigs within the same amount of cash as well. You can expand it further up to 32GB though.
Ending our review of Huawei’s Ascend Y511, we’d suggest you to look at some other of its siblings before making the right decision as its camera and RAM are major disappointments for us. That will be all.
