Huawei’s surprising ability to stuff a lot in a very averaged price smartphone is well documented. A lot of examples that include the Y6, 4C etc. symbolize this quality and we personally think of it as being very commendable indeed. The Huawei Ascend Y600 is a continuation of this trend and it promises more good things than bad if you look at it from the eyes of a person who has a tight upper bound on his cash reserves.

Huawei has meddled a lot now with economical smartphones which have in turn, competed well with other competitive smartphones in this price range such as the Samsung A3, J1, Huawei 3X etc. The Y600 however, does fall short from some of the aforementioned smartphones and here’s how.

We’ve repeatedly stressed in several of our writings that there are things which should never be compromised. Among them include the RAM, ppi pixel density and to some extent the design. The Y600 is to a huge extent, defying all of that criteria even if we look at it from the angle of a low budget person. The display does come at 5.0 inches which is very good considering its price but the problem kicks in because of the 196 ppi pixel density. It is simply not good enough to create sharp and crisp images which also annoys the 5.0 inch display.

The RAM is also laughable at 512 megabytes. There is simply no room for 512MB of RAM in today’s world which is not strong enough to forge a good partnership with the Dual-core 1.3 GHz Cortex-A7 processor to give you a soothing performance. The cameras stand at 5 megapixels primary and VGA for the secondary. That’s just about OK.

The design isn’t appealing either as it is twins with many other Huawei smartphones which brings to an end of our three uncompromisable features.

Concluding this review, for us the Ascend Y600 is just a normal smartphone. Nothing catchy and just offers what others do with nothing that gives an edge over other rivals are what perfectly describe it which is enough to put us off.
