Back with more experience than ever, Huawei has introduced to the world the first smartphone that goes beyond that name. In fact, Huawei themselves refer to the new Mate 10 Pro as an “intelligent machine”. With machine learning deeply integrated into the processor of this beast, the Huawei Mate 10 Pro redefines what it means for your phone to be personal. Going beyond the flagship realm comes the premium flagships, which is exactly what the Mate 10 Pro is, hence, it’ll set you back roughly 90,000 PKR.
As the eldest of the Mate 10 trio, the Mate 10 Pro is in direct competition with the Galaxy Note 8 and iPhone X; meaning it has everything you’d expect from a premium flagship. Sporting a beautifully huge 5.99-inch “full-screen” bezel-less display on the front, the Mate 10 Pro is in synch with the design of the iPhone X; its main target.
The back of the phone is flat as compared to the rounded design of previous Mate series phones. Expectedly, the Mate 10 Pro sports a vertical dual camera setup, similar to the iPhone X. Below the cameras is the fingerprint scanner, which is very conveniently placed.
According to Huawei, the Mate 10 Pro is packing a “smart pen” – not a smart stylus! However, the pen will not work on a regular touchscreen. Instead, you can use the Bluetooth enabled pen to write on a special writing pad and have that content appear on your Mate 10 Pro’s sketchpad!
A metal unibody cladding keeps the phone intact and ensures you have that premium feel in your hands.
The flagship bubble has moved on from the days of 16:9 screens and adopted the sexier looking 18:9 ratio ones, giving the phone a sleeker and taller display and build. However, the iPhone X took things even further with a truly bezel-less phone. Following stead, the Mate 10 Pro is promising a similarly large bezel-less display which it likes to call “Entire View”. With a resolution of 2880*1440 pixels across a 5.99-inch display, you’ll be getting an amazing 546ppi pixel density. It’d be hard for you to identify individual pixels even if you were a cyborg!
Unlike the Mate 10, the Mate 10 Pro has an AMOLED screen, so now you can have those perfect blacks. Color representation is top notch as well, so you can enjoy all your movies and games to their fullest.
Moving out of the “trend” phase, dual cameras are now the norm for flagships. Besides the Google Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL, any phone without one would probably be committing marketing suicide. On the Mate 10 Pro, the main dual camera sensors are LEICA branded 20MP and 12MP sensors both having f/1.6 aperture. OIS with up to 2x lossless zoom, phase detection + laser autofocus and a dual led flash are all on board. The picture quality produced by these beastly sensors are no doubt going to be one of the best any smartphone can produce.
4k video recording is also on board, as expected. The main camera is an 8MP one, making sure all your selfies come out crisp and clear.
Coming in different variants, each one is packing more power than the other. The star powering the whole show is Huawei’s own custom processor: the monstrous Kirin 970. Referring back to our earlier statement of the Mate 10 pro ascending the league of smartphones, Huawei comments that the Kirin 970 is what doesn’t make the phone a phone, but an “intelligent machine” instead.
The Kirin 970 is the first processor which utilizes machine learning to actually “learn” how you use your phone, using power accordingly with different apps and times of the day; all in the most efficient of manners. The Mate 10 Pro also comes with Android 8.0 Oreo out of the box.
The phone comes in 4 versions: 6GB RAM with 64GB ROM, 6GB RAM with 128GB ROM; 6GB RAM with 256GB ROM; and 8GB RAM with 256GB ROM. The battery has a whopping capacity of 4000mAh, allowing you to leisurely enjoy your phone for close to 2 days without worry of dying out.
