Highlights

Huawei’s latest flagship phone that aims to conquer the mainstream market this new year is the Mate 8. Announced and released at the end of 2015, this new dual-sim device comes with a confidence to stay in the spotlight. Huawei has been making waves inside the market, earning its way to the top of the shelf and looking at its recent devices, the company surely deserves the praise.

The first thing one would notice when holding the Mate 8 is its premium body and elegant design. The phone comes in a metallic unibody (with just a little premium-feel plastic placed at the right areas). It packs a 6 inch IPS LCD screen with a full 1080p display at a pixel density of 368 ppi. Huawei has actually played a clever card here by keeping the resolution at 1920x1080 instead of going 2K or 4K because one, there is nearly no visible increase in the sharpness of the display at any resolution higher than a 1080p one in a 5 or 6 inch screen, and two, it saves up so much more battery life (considering the fact that a 2K screen eats up double the amount of a 1080p one). The phone also has a fingerprint sensor at the back (right below the camera) which is believed to be one of the fastest ones available in the market.

Looking at its processing power, the Mate 8 runs on Huawei’s own HiSilicon Kirin 950 chipset and a Quad-core 2.3 GHz Cortex-A72 + Quad-core 1.8 GHz Cortex A53 processor. The phone has two variants in terms of internal storage, one with 32 GB (as well as 3 GB RAM) and the other with 64 GB (and 4 GB RAM). The storage can be expanded as well by adding a microSD card (in the SIM 2 slot) up to 128 GB.

Coming towards the camera, the phone has a primary sensor of 16 MP at the back with an aperture of f/2.0 (as well as Optical Image Stabilization, Phase Detection Autofocus and a dual-LED flash). It also records videos up to 1080p at 60 frames per second. There is also a secondary 8 MP camera at the front with an aperture of f/2.4 that also records videos in 1080p and is also wide enough for self-portraits.

One of the most prominent features of the Mate 8 is its 4000 mAh battery that can last for two days of normal usage (according to the company’s claims). So all in all, the Mate 8 is indeed a beautifully crafted smartphone with rich specs that can stir up some challenge in the flagship range around the market.
