One of Huawei’s not so very old releases, the Y635 was presented to the world about a couple of years ago. The smartphone was targeted to be an improvement on other Y series smartphones that did little to bring joy to the community. So much was at stake when it came to the Y635. The smartphone was intended to be a missile that would strike the hearts of all people that have a limited budget to play with but did it do enough? We don’t think so.
The smartphone mirrors the design of most other Y series smartphones such as the Y530, Y550 etc. with the only noticeable difference in its looks being the newer design of the capacitive buttons at the bottom. Other than that, we believe it is a true disappointment after all.
While it is true that the 5.0 inches IPS LCD display is good, all of its attraction simply gets bulldozed because of its brittle 196 ppi pixel density. Huawei can argue all it want about trying to manufacture an economical smartphone but to compromise on this and the RAM is simply unacceptable. Speaking of RAM, it comes in at 1GB with a helping 1.2 Ghz Quad-core processor. Thank God the RAM is not 512MB which might seem a little bit of silverlining on an otherwise not so appealing smartphone.
The cameras weigh in at 5 and 2 megapixels for the primary and secondary cameras respectively. We have seen bigger sensors in this price range so we will consider the primary camera to be a disappointment but we’ll let the secondary one off the hook as Huawei and other companies are still using a lot of VGA cameras in their devices.
Other than that, nothing more to talk about as the Y635’s reserves of nifty features has dried out rather quickly. The conclusion? We’ll have to say that in 2015, Huawei definitely could’ve come up with a better smartphone. The company has already shown what it can do with low priced smartphones such as the Huawei Y6 and it better start doing that more often. Period.
