Microsoft is making waves in the smartphone market with their low-budget phones as their prices place them with some of the most affordable devices from Chinese manufacturers, which is good as people always prefer a reliable name over the Chinese devices. Lumia 540 is a really good device considering its price bracket and its specifications for a Microsoft Phone. Microsoft surely seems destined to cement their name in the low-end market and they are making sure with good additions like Lumia 540.
The design is similar to most of the Lumia phones with a rectangular device and curves on the corners. The device supports 3G which is a must for a phone of its caliber and is something people of Pakistan have started resonating with. It also provides Dual SIM support. The phone’s display doesn’t disappoint at all with a 5” screen and a 720 x 1280 resolution coupled with the well-advertised ClearBlack display.
The device is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 200 chipset with a Quad-core 1.2 GHz Cortex-A7 on board and Adreno 302 for graphics processing. The phone also has a microSD slot for expansion on the internal 8 GB of memory, up to 128 GB. The phone comes with 1 gig of RAM which is good enough to keep the animations fluid and applications perform well on a Windows Phone. The Lumia 540 comes with Windows Phone 8.1 out of the box along with Lumia Denim.
The rear camera is pretty good at 8 megapixels with a wide aperture that can take some really good pictures. One of the phones very rare shortcomings is the video recording as the phone only records videos at 480p resolution where it is expected of all devices to at least have 720p video support. The phone’s front camera, however, tries its best to appeal the selfie lovers with a 5 megapixels sensor which will perform well enough in most conditions.
The phone comes with a 2200 mAh battery which is also one of the very few disappointing things as the phones big size could have accounted for a bigger battery. However, the positive from this is that the battery is removable and can be replaced in case it starts to wear out unlike some of the newer devices that come with non-removable batteries.
