One thing was for sure that 2018 would be the year we’d be likely to see the first all-screen front panel smartphone. But who could’ve predicted that it’d be Oppo who would’ve been one of the first of the lot to spring this surprise. Taking inspiration from the iPhone X, Oppo’s Find X is the company’s first Rs. 140,000+ release with the smartphone being stacked with loads and loads of goodies.
We’ve seen lots of smartphones come 2018 who’ve tried to emulate the iPhone X. Some like the OnePlus 6 have come with a smaller notch while some like the Xiaomi Mi 8 Explorer have produced an almost identical copy. Oppo decided that it was having none of it as the company has ditched the notch altogether leaving us with the entire front panel being covered by the display.
The smartphone’s crowning feature is the pop-up cameras; it’s the ability of the front panel to slide allowing it to reveal the primary and selfie camera sensors! Wow, that’s something new as it’s only seen on the Vivo NEX S series as of now. The slider automatically works when you press the camera app icon and it takes about 0.5 seconds to unravel and then automatically close when you’ve exited the camera app as well.
That definitely adds to the smartphone’s aesthetics but a 9.4mm width and 186g weight is something we expected considering the slider technology. The smartphone features a dual-glass panel design (with Corning Gorilla Glass 5 protection) with an aluminum frame in between which makes for an all the more stunning all-round look.
The Find X features an all front covering display, verily one of the first of its kind. Statistically speaking, the display is a 6.42 inches AMOLED capacitive touchscreen with 401ppi pixel density. Stretching aspect ratios even further, we’re seeing a whopping 19.5:9 here which means you get twice as more length than width on the display.
The 401ppi pixel density ensures that you get a rasping 1080p HD resolution atop the display which definitely makes the Oppo Find X’s display a graphics-producing force to be reckoned with.
A new feature that we’re seeing come 2018 is the advent of “pop-up” cameras in smartphones to ensure that they do not require any sort of notch. The idea is of the smartphone’s front panel being able to slide itself to reveal the selfie and primary camera sensors. That’s something we have to commend for the think-tanks out there as it really was difficult to guess how would smartphone manufacturers get rid of notches.
The sliding of the back panel reveals a powerful 25 MP selfie sensor and a dual 16 + 20 MP sensor with phase detection autofocus and other prowess-adding features. We’re just amazed to see how well Oppo’s cooked-up something so extraordinary.
The smartphone’s hardware is a powerhouse on its own as we’re witnessing an octa-core processor with 8 gigs of RAM to power the built-in Android Oreo. Internal storage of the smartphone sits at either 128 or 256 gigs which gives you ample of storage to enjoy while USB type-C and a large 3730 mAh battery are its other noteworthy mentions.
The Fast Charge technology in the smartphone is different for both the internal storage variants with the 128GB one featuring VOOC fast charging while the 256GB one features Super VOOC Fast Charging that ensures 100% charging within 35 minutes! Amazing. Last but not the least, Face ID is the way to go meaning that you won’t be getting a fingerprint scanner here while two gorgeous colour schemes in Bordeaux Red and Glacier Blue grace the Find X’s well-made exterior.
