Samsung decided to delve into the metallic body world with their launch of the Galaxy A series, and with multiple phones releasing for all sorts of markets, the A3 is the slimmest and the tiniest of them all. It is the most affordable of the A series and targeted towards those people who want the look and feel of a quality product in an affordable package.
The, much smaller than its siblings, Galaxy A3 is a metal-frame built phone with the exact design as that of its teammates in the A series. It is equipped with a 4.5” Super AMOLED display at a qHD (540 x 960) resolution protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 4. It comes with Android v4.4.4 (KitKat) out of the box but is upgradable to v5.0.2 (Lollipop). It has support for both 3G and LTE along with the usual GSM network.
The A3 has a powerful chipset for a device of its stature in Qualcomm Snapdragon 410. It has a quad-core 1.2 GHz Cortex-A53 and Adreno 306 graphics which, for the time it was released in, was considered well enough for the price bracket, unless you are willing to buy a Chinese Android device. It comes in two versions with one having 1 GB of RAM while the other having 1.5 GB of RAM.
No surprise, in terms of camera, as it features an 8 megapixels sensor that is found in a lot of devices falling in this price range and performs well enough in the daytime but not so well in low-light as its aperture isn’t wide enough to capture much of the light. The front camera, surprisingly, is a 5 megapixels sensor that will produce pretty good results for video callers and selfie lovers. It records video at 1080p (30 frames per second).
The battery seems to be a bit too weak at just 1900 mAh which might just provide a day of normal usage without troubling much. It could prove to be a problem though as it is also non-removable, which is a sacrifice they probably had to make in order to keep the phone as slim as possible.
