After some heavyweight 2016 releases such as the Galaxy C5, A9 Pro etc. Samsung has somewhat shifted its attention to the featherweights of the smartphone UFC to ensure that everyone gets a reason to cheer about. The Galaxy J2 Prime is its upcoming cheap-to-budget smartphone and by the looks of it, the device aims to put a smile on everyone’s face.
Build quality and display
The Galaxy J2 Prime is a part of the “Prime” domain name Samsung has been using for a couple of years now. The smartphone features some nice specs all engulfed beneath a finely finished metal-mimicking plastic back while a slender metal frame encapsulates the front display. The smartphone’s dimensions are not the most pleasing, an 8.9mm width and 160g weight, but lower-end releases tend to fall within these paradigms.
The display is a 5.0 inches capacitive touchscreen with 220ppi pixel density. This equates to a 540p resolution which isn’t the best by any means and we don’t think it’ll look that good on the large touchscreen.
Cameras
The cameras department will surely put a smile on your face. The J2 Prime features an 8 megapixel primary sensor with an LED flash while the selfie sensor features a 5 megapixel camera with an LED flash as well! You don’t see too many dual LED flashes in smartphones nowadays and the J2 Prime is a big shout-out to the selfie lovers; this could just be the easy solution you were looking.
Hardware and software
The J2 Prime is powered by a 1.4 GHz Cortex-A53 processor with an additional 1.5GB of RAM. We’d advise you to stay on the lookout for frequent lag as this amount of power definitely isn’t enough for the built-in Android Marshmallow. Again, not what budget smartphones are really about.
The internal storage banks at 8 gigs of which around 3.5GB is available but the external memory card slot comes to the rescue here. That being said, we’d recommend you not to go loco with the external memory as it drastically slows a smartphone down. Last but not the least, the 2600 mAh battery will hopefully provide some much needed battery life.
