Released in July, 2017 Galaxy J3 Pro is another version of Galaxy J3. Galaxy J has many successors. Looks like they are gonna keep coming just like Samsung’s flagship “S” series. Amongst all these editions, the famous ones are Galaxy J5 and Galaxy J7. This phone is available at a price as low as Rs 15,990.
What’s new?
Galaxy J3 Pro 2017 features metallic exteriors and a capsule-shaped platform at its back panel and LED flash to sit on. This smartphone comes with both single-SIM and dual-SIM. Its all metal exterior features an innovative sleek design but the phone seemingly has put on some weight with an 8.2mm width and 142g weight and it gives a hint as if Samsung’s phones have started to work-out regularly in the gym. Pardon me.
Display
Coming to its display, it has a perfect-figured 5.0 inches display size. Samsung has always been playing with different display technologies and that’s the reason why it has a proven pedigree in this department. In the Galaxy J3 Pro 2017, the previous Super AMOLED is now replaced with a PLS display which Samsung claims to give wider viewing angles and 10% more brightness than an IPS display. Its pixel density stands at 294ppi and screen-to-body ratio increased to 68.5%.
Cameras
Sorry, what?? The cameras, right. So, the rear camera stands at 13 MP with an f/1.9 aperture lens allowing much better picture quality than before. The front camera shelters a 5 MP sensor with f/2.2 aperture which is okay. The sensor misses out on some killer features such as phase detection, autofocus or OIS but we do have geo-tagging, face detection, panorama, HDR and touch focus here.
About the hardware
So, up till now we examined its exterior and it was all good. Time to dive into its internals; The Galaxy J3 Pro 2017 is powered by a quad-core processor with 2GB RAM. Coming out of the box with Android Nougat, the device’s OS couldn’t have asked for anything more than this. 2GB RAM is complemented with a CPU speed of 1.4 GHz. One might think of 16GB of internal storage as an inadequate amount nowadays but relax; an external memory card-slot expandable up to 256GB is there which is a traditional Samsung feature that probably is never overlooked by the company in most of its devices.
We have a non-removable 2400 mAh battery that powers the device. Seems underpowered though. Three different colour schemes namely white, black and gold grace the smartphone’s exterior while we’re disappointed to announce that the device misses out on a fingerprint sensor; looks like Samsung should start trusting mankind more.
Galaxy J3 Pro 2017 pros:
- USB-on-the-go is introduced
- At 5.0 inches, the display size is adequate while PLS offers better viewing
- The primary camera offers much promise; it’s the selfie sensor we’re a tad worried about
Galaxy J3 Pro 2017 cons:
- Battery capacity seems woefully underpowered
- You definitely need a fingerprint sensor come 2017, it’s a shame for the smartphone to miss out on that
- Not entirely sure of its processing power’s prowess
