After confirming that the Note7 will be taken down for good, Samsung is priming itself to regain its prowess as a top smartphone manufacturer by doing some serious homework and coming up with all-rounder releases. After the J7 Prime coming into existence, we’re hearing of its more affordable sibling, the J5 Prime also coming to town very soon indeed.
Build quality and display
The J7 Prime and J5 Prime are very similar to one another with their build quality and design. Just like the 2016 A series brought a new dual-glass panel design to the table, the J7 Prime and J5 prime have followed suit and we’re seeing a new metal unibody design in both of these devices. Other than that, the J5 Prime’s dimensions are also neat with an 8.1mm width while 143g weight seems weightless in the palm.
Its display features a 5.0 inches IPS LCD capacitive touchscreen with 294ppi pixel density. This translates into a 720p resolution that goes on well with the 5 inches display producing some nice graphics. Corning Gorilla Glass protection is a must mention giving the front panel some much needed protection as well as extra gloss.
Cameras
If there’s one thing that makes us yawn, it’s rewriting how good Samsung’s cameras are again and again. They’re absolutely stunning and each year we get to see Samsung gaining a foothold over others with regards to its camera prowess.
That being said, the J5 Prime features similar power in its cameras with the primary camera housing a 13 megapixel sensor with an LED flash. The selfie camera at 5 megapixels is also good news so we’d advise you not to forget taking a selfie wherever you go.
Hardware and software
The J5 Prime is powered by a 1.4 GHz Quad-Core processor with an additional 2GB of RAM. Not the hunkiest of them all, it nevertheless packs a punch and will do well in smoothly running the built-in Android Marshmallow. Its internal storage stands at 16 gigs which is expandable through the external card slot while a fingerprint sensor ensures that the J5 Prime won’t feel like an outdated smartphone.
