The Galaxy J series began as Samsung’s low to mid-ranged smartphones flag bearer with some excellent devices as of late. With a little bit of tweaking to the latest J5 2017, Samsung has launched the all new Galaxy J5 2017 Pro. With an expected launch price in excess of 28,000 rupees, the new smartphone doesn’t really has much more to offer than its slightly older 2017 version.

Metal is the primary build material of choosing

The device features an all metal build with some curvy tracks up its back panel that somewhat makes it resemble some HTC devices. From the front, the J5 2017 Pro retains the design that all Samsung smartphones enjoy particularly the 2017 A and J series devices, bar the Galaxy S8 with all infinity display. When it comes to its dimensions, a 7.9mm width is very good.

Quite unsurprisingly, we have a Super AMOLED here

You heard that right; the J5 2017 Pro comes in with a 5.2 inches Super AMOLED capacitive touchscreen with 282ppi pixel density. Allowing a respectable 720p resolution, we’re positive that you’ll find graphics atop the 5.2 inches display very close to what you’d hoped for.

Two equally capable camera sensors

We say this because both the smartphone’s camera sensors feature equivalent muscle; with a 13 megapixel dedicated snapper for both your primary and selfie cameras, taking your hands-off these two babies will be a whole lot difficult.

Cameras with similar pedigree have produced commendable results before and with features that include geo-tagging, touch-focus, face detection, HDR and panorama, you’ll have plenty of options to explore with your snaps atop the J5 2017 Pro. So, there really isn’t much to separate the two sensors apart from the fact that the primary sensor has a dedicated LED flash while the selfie sensor does not; not much of a surprise or a problem, yes?

The only difference between the J5 2017 and J5 2017 Pro is here

Schematically, the J5 2017 Pro features a powerful octa-core processor with an additional 3 gigs of RAM compared to the simple J5 2017 featuring 2GB of it. This amount of processing power seems well-equipped for the Samsung-tinkered built-in Android Nougat and we’re happy that company has resolved our reservations with the previous J5 2017.

Its internal storage banks at 16 gigs which is an amount that’s slowly turning into something that repels people away but you do have an external card slot at your service, if required. A front-mounted, home-key embedded fingerprint scanner duly takes its place while a satisfying non-removable 3000 mAh battery juices the Galaxy J5 2017 Pro and four different colour schemes namely blue, pink, gold and black rounds-off just about everything you need to know about the device.

Galaxy J5 2017 Pro pros:

Commendable build quality gives the smartphone a premium feel
A slight change of design from the back distinguishes the smartphone from other Samsung devices
With 3 gigs of RAM and an octa-core processor, you do have adequate amount of processing power coming your way
The two 13 megapixel camera sensors are surely, the highlight of the J5 2017
Fingerprint scanner and 4 excellent colour schemes are surely a plus

Galaxy J5 2017 cons:

The display resolution and 16 gigs of internal storage definitely could’ve been more beefed-up
You can find better and cheaper Oppo, Xiaomi devices etc. within this price range
