Product Description

Apart from the widely anticipated Galaxy Note 8 come August 2017, Samsung’s not forgotten it has other categories to think about as well with the launch of the Galaxy J7 Core. The smartphone is another addition to the company’s medium ranged smartphones with known specifications within a launching price of 25,000 rupees.

Nothing new as far as the design and display are concerned

By August 2017, Samsung’s brought quite a few new designs to its otherwise well-known and customary design department; when it comes to the 2016-2017 A and J series, their designs have been pretty splendid with excellent dual-glass panel finishing. It’s somewhat disappointing to see the J7 Core revert to a more normal, J7 2015-ish design with more plastic and less metal atop its exterior. Dimensions wise, we’re thrilled to see a 7.6mm width which is excellent for a medium-ranged Samsung smartphone while its 170g weight is a bit more than one would expect.

A treat for the large screen lovers

Samsung’s smartphones are slowly and steadily moving towards making 5.5 inch touchscreens their norm; the J7 Core follows through with this trend with the smartphone supporting a 5.5 inches Super AMOLED capacitive touchscreen with 267ppi pixel density. This allows a 720p resolution at max.

Now, the screen size surely is a reason to cheer about for the large screen lovers  but when it comes to the display’s qualitative aspect, we’re not too sure about how that’ll pan out. 1080p resolutions tend to go perfectly with 5.5 inch displays so it’s not that easy to say how a 720p resolution will fare on a large screen; maybe just a tad stretched.

Plain old but a good primary camera sensor

It’s no secret that most of Samsung’s medium-ranged smartphones are stuffed with a 13 megapixel primary sensor plus an LED flash; the J7 Core is no different with the smartphone featuring that very camera with customary features that include geo-tagging, touch focus, HDR and panorama. Despite not featuring OIS or phase detection autofocus, these 13 megapixel sensors tend to produce excellent results.

The selfie sensor is underpowered as we’re only seeing 5 megapixels worth of power here. That’s an aspect the J7 Core definitely could improve on.

Not the quite the hard-Core hardware we were expecting

On first sightings, we expected the smartphone to be rather a powerhouse of sorts; that hasn’t turned out to be the case despite the smartphone featuring an octa-core processor. 2GB of RAM seems a-tad underpowered for the built-in Android Nougat while 16GB of internal memory is the smartphone’s inventory size.

Other noticeable but quite ordinary features include dual-SIM capability, an external card-slot expandable up to 256GB, a 3000 mAh battery and micro-USB v2.0. Not too impressed are you?

Galaxy J7 Core pros:

  • A 5.5 inch sized display is music to the ears of many
  • A good 13 megapixel primary sensor is probably its crowning feature
  • A 7.6mm width is sleek

Galaxy J7 Core cons:

  • A 720p resolution atop a 5.5 inches display isn’t the best of combinations
  • The smartphone missing out on a fingerprint scanner is bogus!
  • Should’ve packed a bigger selfie sensor to be honest
  • 2GB RAM won’t be enough to completely eliminate lag atop the Android Nougat
  • Should’ve offered greater internal storage
