Samsung doesn’t seem anywhere near to ending the J series lineup of phones as they’ve now introduced us to the Galaxy J7 Duo. The Galaxy J7 Duo is a cheap offering for those who want a big screen and moderate specs. But with its price being around Rs. 27,000, can they J7 Duo hold its own against the plethora of Chinese smartphones in this price range? Let’s find out.
The Galaxy J7 Duo is a metal unibody phone. It has a sleek and smooth feeling, especially given its round stature. On the front of the phone we have your traditional Samsung phone look. A home button on the bottom, which doubles as a fingerprint reader, in the middle with a back capacitive button to the right and recent apps button to the left. The screen is a now old school 16:9 display, which is an odd thing for Samsung to do. Above the display is your front facing camera and LED flash, earpiece and sensors.
On the back, we have your dual camera in a vertical setup and speakers and LED flash to either side. Other than that, the back is totally clean.
Samsung for some reason has chosen to give the Galaxy J7 Duo a traditional 16:9 display in this day and age of 18:9 phones. The phone is no looker thanks to the big bezels on the front of the phone. There are easily dozens of other phones in this price range that have 18:9 displays. Moving on, the resolution of the J7 Duo is a measly 720*1280, and given the 5.5-inch diagonal size of the screen, the pixel density adds up to a subpar 267ppi. Good thing is that the screen is a Super AMOLED one, something that the competition lacks. Good viewing angles and saturated punchy colors will be something that gives the J7 Duo an edge.
There are a total of 3 cameras on the Galaxy J7 Duo, one on the front and 2 on the back. The selfie camera is accompanied by an LED flash. The camera itself is an 8MP shooter with an aperture of f/1.9, and as Samsung cameras usually do, you’ll be able to capture quite a bit of the surroundings.
The main setup consists of a 13MP camera and a 5MP one. The 13MP one also has an aperture of f/1.9 and both sensors have phase detection auto focus. The secondary camera is for depth sensing for your portrait shots. Video capability of both front and back cameras max out at 1080p at 30 frames per second.
The hardware of the J7 Duo is normal for its price range. It comes with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of internal memory, which is pretty adequate. Bonus is that you can expand that buy up to 256GB with the microSD card slot. The processor that keeps things running in the J7 Duo is the Exynos 7885 Octa. The battery on the J7 Duo is also average at 3000mAh. Android 8.0 Oreo can be found pre-installed.
