Samsung is slowly and steadily moving out of the A, J series and is now marketing its smartphones in newer flavors. The Galaxy On series is another one of its mid-range targeting group of smartphones. The Galaxy On7 has already got its wheels in motion and the On8 is what will further push the series into the limelight.
Build quality and display
The On8 may not be the best when it comes to build materials, its performance and display are what makes more headlines. The smartphone features a polished plastic back that in pictures, seems like metal. But, make no mistake about it as its plastic but feels great to touch. Its dimensions are pretty sleek; a 7.8mm width is commendable while the 169g weight does seem a little overzealous.
The front panel features an excellent 1080p Super AMOLED capacitive touchscreen with 401ppi pixel density. The screen size banks at 5.5 inches and it goes on very well with the 1080p HD resolution.
Cameras
Samsung and cameras forge a partnership that is very well known since the days of the Galaxy S2. The On8 also features 2 excellent cameras that despite their lack of features perform up to the mark. The primary camera features a 13 megapixel sensor with an f/1.9 aperture sized lens and an LED flash. As mentioned earlier, no OIS or phase detection to talk about but it still performs very well.
The selfie camera features a 5 megapixel sensor but it’s the front facing LED flash that is sure to catch peoples’ attention. Apart from dual-lens cameras, front facing LED’s are gaining prominence nowadays and the On8 making good use of them is good news indeed.
Hardware and software
The Galaxy On8 is powered by an Octa-Core 1.6 GHz Cortex-A53 processor with an additional 3GB of RAM. That means the built-in Android Marshmallow will perform extremely well resulting in little to no lag. Its internal storage banks at 16 gigs while expandable up to 256 gigs through the external memory card slot.
Other than these, dual-SIM support and a 3300 mAh battery are its other notable features but we’re bamboozled by the fact that the On8 is deprived of a fingerprint sensor.
