Samsung Galaxy S8+ long term review

With the Galaxy S10 and S10 plus's release this year, it's time to ask: Is the S8+ still worth buying? It has been about a couple of years since the Galaxy S8 and S8+ were released, and it is by far one of the best Android smartphones that came out in 2017. The Galaxy S8+ has a premium design, made of an aluminum frame with gorilla glass five on the front and back which makes it feel slick and smooth when holding it in your hands. Looking at the front, we can see the beautiful infinity display which is a 6.2″ Quad HD+ Super AMOLED display with an aspect ratio of 18.5:9. The Galaxy S8 screen was also rated one of the first HDR-capable smartphones so when watching HDR content from apps like YouTube or Netflix, the S8 screen ups up the screen brightness and saturation to offer the best mobile entertainment experience. The Galaxy S8 and S8+ come packed either with Samsung’s own Exynos chipset. It also comes with 4 GB of RAM and 64 GB of onboard storage which can be expandable with a micro SD card. When playing games or running apps that require a lot of CPU and GPU power, the phone performs flawlessly. The Galaxy S8+ comes with a 3,500 mAh battery which for most people it is good enough but at the same time not quite sufficient for others. the camera on the Galaxy S8+ takes some excellent shots. It is not the best in the market right now, but it is unmistakably an excellent camera capable of producing some excellent images with popping colors. Also, the camera app is easy to use, and it has some great features that help to take some great shots.

Should you buy a Samsung Galaxy S8+ in 2019? (The Verdict)

The Galaxy S8+ may be about 2 years old, but it still feels like a modern and capable phone. Its spec sheet doesn't feel drastically out of place for late 2019, and it has all of the same basic features and software as the latest and greatest Galaxy S10. It has the same charging speed, wireless charging IP68 resistance and more that are headline features on the newer Samsung flagships. Its cameras are a generation behind, but are still very capable and still set a level above the new value-focused phones available at a similar price today. Aside from a couple of small caveats, you can use a Galaxy S8+ in 2019 and still feel like you're keeping up with the crowd.

Galaxy S8+, Galaxy S9+, and Galaxy S10+ Camera Comparison

A good reason for many people to upgrade is for improvements in a phone’s camera hardware and software. Samsung’s previous rear-facing cameras were well regarded. The S8+ featured a single 12-megapixel dual-pixel camera with an f/1.7 aperture. The Galaxy S9 Plus introduced a dual-camera system that included the 12-megapixel wide-angle lens with dual f/1.5 and f/2.4 apertures and the 12-megapixel f/2.4 telephoto lens. This year, Samsung has made some improvements, especially if you’re considering the S10 rather than the S10 Plus. If you bought a Galaxy S9, you didn’t get the dual-camera system that came with the Plus. This year, both the S10 and the S10 Plus offer Samsung’s new triple-camera system: a 12-megapixel f/2.4 telephoto lens, a 12-megapixel f/1.5 wide lens, and a 16-megapixel f/2.2 ultra-wide lens. Both also have a front-facing 10-megapixel f/1.9 lens, with the S10 Plus adding an extra 8-megapixel f/2.2 lens. In short, the new phones offer a variety of new hardware that photography buffs will want to look at in more detail.
