As Samsung is firing on all cylinders in 2016, it feels like that Sony is trying to do the same. The company is doing its best to retain its fear factor and this saying now genuinely feels true: “What doesn’t kill you makes you stronger”. Sony’s Xperia Z series was seemingly going downhill and people needed something different. Finally, it feels like we’ve got what we were looking for in the form of the Xperia X Compact.
Body and Display
The Sony Xperia X Compact is another addition to Sony’s Compact family. Just like Samsung and other companies have the minis, Sony has Compact smartphones that are a smaller version of their larger counterparts and usually see releases in the same year as their older sibling does.
Its build quality features a well-polished plastic-like material that is incredibly strong making it feel like some sort of a ceramic. It features a looped design (as Sony likes to call it) which is different to the Z series. The smartphone is rather thick at 9.5mm and at this width, we did expect it to be waterproof which shockingly it isn’t. The display is a 4.6 inch IPS LCD capacitive touchscreen with 319ppi. 4.6 inches is what the Compact is all about!
Camera
Sony’s cameras are bound to perform well and the X Compact retains the large 23 megapixel primary camera from its larger counterpart. Its selfie camera though sees a tremendous regression as it comes in a 5 megapixel sensor compared to the 13 megapixel sensor of the Xperia X. Anyway, by regression we simply are not trying to imply decrease in quality as it as sinful as it can get by expecting Sony’s cameras to not perform up to the task.
Software and Hardware
The Xperia X Compact, despite being smaller, does not compromise on performance at all. This is primarily because of its Hexa-Core processor supported by 3GB of RAM which is very efficient to run the built-in Android Marshmallow. It comes in with 32GB of internal storage while the fingerprint sensor and Fast Charge 3.0 technology are its other notable mentions.
