Highlights

A few months ago Vivo released the Vivo V7, with its monster cameras and beautiful screen. And now Vivo have released a slightly lower spec’d version of the phone: The Vivo Y75.  Because it’s mostly similar to its bigger brother, the Vivo Y75 is priced slightly lower at roughly Rs. 25,000.

Design

Looks wise, you’d be hard pressed if you could tell the difference between the Vivo V7 and the Vivo Y75. On the front both phones have no buttons and a tall 18:9 bezel-less display that covers up most of the phone real estate. Vivo have dubbed their tall screen setup as the “FullView” display. Thanks to it, the Vivo Y75 has a large screen but a fairly small stature, so it’s manageable to hold with one hand. The Vivo Y75 is not just made of one material like plastic or metal but it’s a combination of both of those and glass; allowing it to weigh in at 139g only, lighter than its most of its competition

Above the screen we have the standard sensors, the selfie camera and an LED notification light. On the back of the phone we have the main camera and LED flash along with the rear mounted fingerprint sensor.

Display

The screen on the Vivo Y75 is a 5.7-inch LCD IPS display. That means the color representation on the phone will be slightly colder as compared to its AMOLED counterparts. Being a cheaper phone, one of the compromises are found in the resolution of the display, which is 1440*720. The pixel density equates to 286ppi, which is kind of subpar in this day and age where even entry level phones have 300+ppi. It is however a “FullView” display, meaning the aspect ratio is 18:9. This allows the Vivo Y75 to have a big screen but a relatively small body.

Cameras

Like the Vivo V7, the cameras of the Vivo Y75 are its main attractions, albeit not as large in MP size as the V7. The main camera on the back is a 13MP shooter with an f/2.0 aperture and phase detection auto focus. It can record videos up to 1080p at 30fps. The front camera is again the focus of the phone. With a huge 16MP sensor, the camera comes with a slew of features. The selfie camera has an f/2.0 aperture as well, can shoot in modes such as panorama, face beauty, HDR, ultra-HD, portrait more and a ton of others. The LED light on the front helps to take selfies in low light conditions.

Hardware

The hardware part of the Vivo Y75 is the underwhelming bit, but that’s to be expected of a midrange handset. Under the hood is an unspecified octa-core processor. There’s also 4GB of RAM on board, but only 32gigs of storage. You can expand up to 256GB with the microSD card slot. The battery in the Vivo Y75 is a 3000mAh cell, and given the screen resolution and processor, you could probably pump out close to 2 days on a single charge. The Vivo Y75 comes with Android 7.1 Nougat with FunTouch 3.2 OS on top.

Vivo Y75 pros:
  • It has a huge selfie camera with a lot of features
  • It’s robust and comfortable to use despite the big screen size
  • It has a lot of RAM
  • It’s cheap
Vivo Y75 cons:
  • It has a low resolution screen
