Xiaomi has finally reached our shores and we’re pretty excited about what it has to offer. While not that old, the company is probably one of the first Chinese manufacturers to come up with proper value for money smartphones. In trying to build a name for itself, which we’re sure it will given its pedigree in producing low-cost smartphones of the highest order, the company has resorted to the supreme Xiaomi Mi 5.
Build quality and display
The Xiaomi Mi 5 is one of the prettiest looking Xiaomi smartphones out there. With a curving glass back panel (protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 4) that subtly nestles into your palm, the Mi 5 could just be Tom Cruise’s next mission impossible. The front features a home button that is in practice used by many manufacturers out there while its nifty dimensions further add to its already gorgeous exterior; yes we’re talking about a diva-like 7.3mm width and either 126/139g of weight depending on the variant you choose to buy.
The smartphone’s display features a 5.15 inches IPS LCD capacitive touchscreen with 424ppi pixel density. This translates into a 1080p HD resolution that looks all the more stunning on the adequately sized 5.15 inches front display leading to a beautiful graphical experience.
Cameras
Given Xiaomi’s knack of producing some of the most well-performing cameras out there, there’s no reason to doubt the Mi 5 doing things differently. The smartphone features a top of the ladder 16 megapixel primary sensor laded with features which include 4-axis OIS, phase-detection autofocus and a dual-tone LED flash. The selfie camera features a relatively smaller 4 megapixel sensor but we’re completely unfazed by that and we thoroughly believe that the Mi 5 is a genuine a hit.
Hardware and software
The Mi 5 is powered by a Quad-Core processor with RAM and internal storage varying as follows:
- Standard edition: 32GB internal storage plus 3GB of RAM
- Prime edition: 64GB internal storage plus 3GB of RAM
- Pro edition: 128GB internal storage plus 4GB of RAM
All three smartphones run Android Marshmallow while USB type-C, 4 different color schemes, Quick-Charge 3.0 and a large 3000 mAh battery are its other heavyweight features.
