If there’s a name that revolutionized budget smartphones of the highest caliber, it is Xiaomi. The Chinese manufacturer has come up with the cheapest of smartphones year after year even outsmarting the industrious Huawei in the process (to some extent) and one of its most sought after smartphones calls itself by the name of the Redmi 2 Prime. Its slogan: A blockbuster of features packed inside the most unbelievable of prices.
Body and Display
The Redmi 2 Prime was built to target the lower-end of smartphones and instead, it even took the lower-mid range category by storm because of its cheap price and un-rivalled specs. The smartphone features an all plastic back and the front panel is all glass with 3 capacitive buttons sitting pretty at the bottom of the touchscreen.
Speaking of the touchscreen, the Xiaomi Redmi 2 Prime offers a 4.7 inches IPS LCD capacitive touchscreen with a generously good 312ppi pixel density. It is extremely rare to see this kind of pixel density in such as price but hats off to Xiaomi for making this possible while also providing 720p resolution. A standing ovation anyone?
Camera
The cameras do enough to catch everyone’s attention. While we’re accustomed to seeing companies either provide smaller camera sensors or ditch the secondary cameras altogether within this price bracket to balance their books, the Redmi 2 Prime offers two excellent cameras with powerful sensors.
The primary camera features a muscular 8 megapixel sensor, f/2.2 aperture sized lens with an LED flash. We certainly cannot complain about the lack of OIS or phase detection in this price range so we’ll give the camera its due credit. The secondary houses a satisfying 2 megapixel sensor that should prove adequate enough to take good care of your selfie needs.
Hardware and Software
After showing generosity in all of the aforementioned departments, the Redmi 2 Prime hasn’t failed up to keep up with that trend in its hardware. The smartphone is powered by an Octa-core 1.2 GHz Cortex A-53 processor with an additional 2GB of RAM which is enough for the built-in Android v4.4.4 KitKat. The smartphone also comes in with an amazing built-in 16GB memory which is expandable through its memory card slot as well.
