Xiaomi’s taken the value for money smartphones game by the scruff of its neck. With some excellent releases in our country so far, the Redmi 5’s superb prowess shouldn’t really come as a surprise to us at all. The smartphone is absolutely beautiful with some powerful specifications within an expected launching price of Rs. 17,000.
Wait, is that the Honor 8 Lite?
At first look, one can easily take the Redmi 5 to be Huawei’s famed Honor 8 Lite because of the sheer similarities between the two as far as their back-panels are concerned. The Redmi 5 however chooses metal rather than honor 8 Lite’s glass while when it comes to the front, Xiaomi’s opted to be persistent with its three capacitive buttons design which is something we’re not the biggest fans off.
Who wants an HD display within a price like this?
Stuffing more in less has always been Xiaomi’s thing. However if it’s the quantitative side of things that impresses you more than the qualitative, you’d be disappointed as the smartphone features a 5.0 inches IPS LCD capacitive touchscreen as opposed to larger 5.2 or 5.5 inches. Its quality however cannot be underestimated because of its 441ppi pixel density that easily allows it to support a 1080p HD resolution. You’ll easily feel the attention to detail the Redmi 5 gives to its graphics department for your ultimate pleasure.
A bazooka of a primary sensor
The smartphone features a hunky 16 megapixel primary sensor with an LED flash plus phase detection autofocus. The selfie camera stands at a rather shaky ground because of its somewhat underpowered 5 megapixel sensor but we’d advise you not to judge these two cameras too quickly for fear of getting pretty badly snapped by them.
Time to get crazy about the Redmi 5
The smartphone further highlights its superb overall prowess by featuring an octa-core Cortex-A53 processor with variant dependent RAM and internal storage as follows:
- 64GB internal storage plus 4GB RAM
- 32GB + 4GB internal storage and RAM respectively
- 16GB internal storage and 3 gigs of RAM
All three variants are pretty neat with their processing power and are fully capable to handle the needs of the built-in Android Nougat. Continuing on with its impressive streak of features we have a large non-removable 3680 mAh battery that is bigger than what most smartphones offer nowadays. Fast Charge technology is another added bonus while it would’ve been a disappointment had the smartphone missed out on a rear-mounted fingerprint scanner. Dual-SIM capability and black/gold colour schemes are all what this incredible release from Xiaomi is all about.
