Highlights

In light of the recent emphasis many smartphone manufacturers are placing on value for money smartphones, HTC isn’t prepared to be left behind. With that in mind, we’ve already seen some nifty releases from the company come 2016 such as the Desire 830, One S9 etc. and the Desire 650 will further do its bit to increase HTC’s already healthy stock of affordable smartphones.

Build quality and display

The Desire 650 is built along similar lines to the Desire 620 and Desire 626 with a completely plastic body that is designed and finished in a very crafty manner. The front panel features a sufficiently large 5.0 inches touchscreen while its bezels support the two large speaker grills of which one belongs to the sound speaker. The back is a non-removable panel with the fish-eyed camera lens situated at its top left. Its dimensions aren’t the best with a rather hefty 8.4mm width while we’re pleased to see the Desire 650 maintaining its weight at 140g.

We almost forgot to elaborate its display; the smartphone features a 5.0 inches IPS LCD capacitive touchscreen with 294ppi pixel density. This results in a 720p resolution and fortunately, you won’t find a pixelated display here but it may lack a tad-bit of sharpness.

Cameras

HTC has always done wonderfully well with its cameras and the Desire 650 looks all set to continue that trend. The smartphone features a 13 megapixel primary camera with autofocus and an LED flash while the secondary camera banks in at 5 megapixels. Not feature rich by any means but HTC’s history in producing top-order cameras do not give us any reason to doubt the Desire 650’s cameras.

Hardware and software

The Desire 650 is powered by a Quad-Core processor with an additional 2GB of RAM. If ignoring some occasional lag, the smartphone supports adequate power to run the built-in Android Marshmallow while it supports 16GB of internal storage with an external memory card slot as well.

No fingerprint scanner takes some gloss away from the Desire 650 and its 2200 mAh battery isn’t the most competitive either. Definitely better smartphones can be found elsewhere *cough-cough Huawei, Oppo, Infinix etc.*
