Windows Phone has been around for quite some time now and in the past few years, they’ve started to cement their name in the smartphone market as well. With the recent acquisition of Nokia, Microsoft wants to showcase the power of their operating system by manufacturing devices themselves. The Lumia 950 XL is not only a bigger phone, as the title suggests, but also the perfect device to experience the new Windows 10.
The XL has a familiar face in terms of looks as has been the case with all the Microsoft devices, but it is bigger in size than its sibling Lumia 950. Both phones come with an AMOLED display but the XL is half an inch bigger than the 950 with a 5.7” display. Both phones have a 2K display but the XL has Gorilla Glass 4 protection instead of the Gorilla Glass 3 found on the 950.
Both phones come with Windows 10 operating system and are powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon chipsets with the XL getting a beefier one in the 810 over the 808 on the 950. Moreover, the XL has 2 quad-core processors whereas the 950 has a single quad-core and a dual-core processor. In terms of graphics, with a newer chipset, the XL has Adreno 430 graphics and in the RAM department, both phones have the same 3GB with 32GB internal memory. The phones are expandable up to 200 GB via microSD support.
Both the rear and front cameras are the exact same on both devices with a 20 megapixels camera on the rear and a 5 megapixels camera on the front. As always the rear-camera makes use of Carl Zeiss optics and also has optical image stabilization. It records 4K video and shall produce wonders, even in low light, thanks to the f/1.9 wide aperture.
Both phones have the latest USB Type-C port for charging and data synchronization purposes. The phones also have fast charging and wireless charging support.The XL gets a bigger battery in 3340 mAh over the 3000 mAh of the 950 and will definitely get you 2 days of use easily.
