There is no stopping the trend of selfies and it’s only growing with thousands of apps promising to deliver the best selfie with so many filters and variations that users don’t mind paying a couple bucks for them. Samsung, like some other manufacturers, also wanted to get in the race of selfie-centric phones and the Grand Prime is designed to do just that.
When you first hear about the Grand Prime, the name instantly makes you think of a flagship phone. But behind the grand name, is a mid-range plastic body phone looking to cash in on people who want a better front camera in an affordable package. The Grand Prime has a 5” TFT screen at qHD (540 x 960) resolution which isn’t the best of displays. It comes with KitKat out of the box but is upgradable to Lollipop.
It is powered by a chipset found in almost all the phones of this bracket i.e. Qualcomm Snapdragon 410. It has a quad-core Cortex-A53 processor and Adreno 306 graphics which is fitting for a mid-range phone. It falls short in the RAM department with just 1 GB of RAM which recently has been found in some of the cheaper phones.
It features an 8 megapixels sensor on the rear which is able to capture photos at a wide aperture of f/2.2, which makes it a good enough phone even for some low-light conditions. The front camera is 5 megapixels in size that is promised to capture wide angle shots, aiding those selfie enthusiasts in getting all their friends into the frame easily. It also has the same aperture as that of the rear-camera making it a great phone for selfies in low-light conditions.
In terms of battery, the phone possesses a 2600 mAh battery that can give you about 2 days of average use involving web browsing and a bit of music/video playback. The battery is also removable, a rarity of sorts in some of the recent phones, which means for a durable phone in case you have to replace the battery to get the same timing as that of a new Grand Prime.
