Highlights

Samsung already has a huge arsenal of some of the very best smartphones out there and the year 2016 has been nothing but a splendid year for them. Despite the discontinuation of the Note7, everything has been seamless and the company has introduced yet another budget smartphone in the form of the Galaxy Grand Prime+ to further tighten its grip on the budget lovers.

Build quality and display

The Grand Prime+ succeeds the least successful Galaxy Grand Prime. We’ve personally tested the latter and unfortunately it was one of the worst Samsung releases in a long time due to the immense lag and somewhat pixelated display it offered. That being said, we hope that Samsung has gotten things right this time and the new Grand Prime+ features a different body, more like the J5 2016, with an 8.9mm width which are the first of a number of improvements it brings over its predecessor.

Its display features a 5.0 inches Super AMOLED capacitive touchscreen with a 220ppi pixel density. This translates into a 540p resolution which is as disappointing as it can get and we’re sad to see such a resolution exist in the year 2016; definitely a major letdown for the Galaxy Grand Prime+.

Cameras

The cameras do bring some sort of silver-lining to the Grand Prime+. The primary camera features an 8 megapixel sensor with autofocus and an LED flash while the secondary camera features a satisfying 5 megapixel sensor. Fortunately none of the two cameras get neglected so we’ll keep our fingers crossed upon how they’ll perform.

Hardware and software

The Grand Prime was extremely disappointing because of its incredible tendency to lag. The Grand Prime+ on the other hand may not seem that much powerful but the 2GB RAM provides some much needed backing to the 1.4 GHz Quad-Core Cortex-A53 processor. Despite the fact that lag will not completely go away on the built-in Android Marshmallow, it is an improvement on its successor.

Other notable mentions include 32 gigs of internal storage which is excellent news while the smartphone misses out on a fingerprint scanner and Fast Charge. Last but not the least; it features a competitive 2600 mAh battery while it’ll come in 3 different color schemes.
