After going dormant for almost a year, Sony’s back and back with a bang with not one, not two but FOUR different top-drawer releases. We’ll be focusing on the Xperia XZs for now with the smartphone expected to hit the shelves come early April 2017 with an expected launch price of 71,000 rupees.
Design: Sony through and through
The XZs features a known design that we’ve seen in some previous Xperia smartphones such as the Xperia XZ and X Compact etc. However, the aforementioned smartphones featured metal unibodies while the XZs features an all-glass build with Corning Gorilla Glass protection on both panels. IP68 dust and waterproofing is a guarantee while an 8.1mm width and 161g is something Sony should improve upon.
A competitive display
The 5.2 inches IPS LCD capacitive touchscreen with 424ppi pixel density is very competitive beyond any doubts whatsoever. Its credibility is further aided by the XZs supporting a 1080p HD resolution while the Corning Gorilla Glass protection ensures not only class, but gloss as well.
Sony has cooked something new in its cameras
That’s right; now we know where Sony invested all its time in 2016. The XZs features a 19 megapixel motion eye camera. In a nutshell, this is one of the first cameras of its kind with the ability to snap photos at a tremendously faster rate than ever before. Not only that, it holds incredible capacity to manipulate videos and slow them down to 960fps which is 4 times that of other cameras. Other than that, you also get phase detection and laser autofocus with the Xperia XZs which testifies its prowess as a camera-phone.
Motion camera apart, its selfie sensor commands respect as well with 13 megapixels worth of power. Camera-savvy users will surely love hanging around this guy.
More RAM, faster performance
The XZs is powered by a hybrid Quad-Core Cortex processor with 4GB of RAM. For those who’re wondering why the smartphone hasn’t got an Octa-Core processor, don’t panic as the number of cores doesn’t have a large bearing on a smartphone’s performance with RAM being the main culprit. Its internal storage stands a 32 gigs while an external memory card-slot, side-mounted fingerprint scanner, USB type-C and a 2900 mAh non-removable battery being its other noticeable features.
Sony Xperia XZs pros:
- Its crowning feature, the motion eye camera of-course
- Lag-free performance atop Android Nougat
- Huge selfie sensor
- Fast charging with Quick-charge 3.0
Sony Xperia XZs cons:
- The battery seems underpowered
