Galaxy C5 vs. A5 (2016): price, design and specs

Galaxy C5 vs A5 2016

Samsung is striving to improve itself on all fronts. Bar the exploding batteries issue, the Note7 and the S7 are excellent releases. However, it’s not just about flagships here as the company has released some excellent mid-rangers come 2016 that deserve some recognition; two of these are the Galaxy C5 and the A5 2016.

Both the aforementioned smartphones have received some positive responses over the course of the last few months but as always, we’ll add a little spice to the tale; we’re as curious to know which smartphone outstrips the other for the title of the better device as you are. So let’s stop wasting time and delve into a comprehensive comparison between the Galaxy C5 and the Galaxy A5 2016 which will enable you to easily differentiate between the two smartphones. Do not get fooled by their lookalike names, they’ve a host of differences between each other!

Build quality

We’ll jet off with the Galaxy A5 2016 first. The smartphone sees a revamp compared to its predecessor, the A5, which made use of an extremely delicate aluminum body that was simply gorgeous to look at and stunning to feel. The A5 2016 features an all glass body with a nicely finished metallic frame in between the front and back panels.

We were thoroughly impressed by its build as the Corning Gorilla Glass 4 protected glass panels indeed provided a sturdy feel while in no way compromising on the A5 2016’s superb looks. The metallic frame further adds to its gloss. Its dimensions are extremely sleek with a 7.3mm width and the 155g may seem a tad heavy but we can assure you that the situation is a lot different than what it seems on paper.

Now we’ll shift our attention to the Galaxy C5. This is a new brand of Samsung smartphones that mirrors many HTC devices. It’ll debut with an all metal unibody design with antenna bands similar to that of the iPhone 6S. Its metallic exterior has its fair share of shine while we’re pleased to announce that the smartphone is 6.7mm at its thickest while it weighs in at 143g.

Now both the smartphones feature aesthetically pleasing looks and build quality. In the end, it mostly comes down to what you prefer; metal or glass. However, the slender dimensions of the C5 does merit a little bit closer attention.

Display

The display category sees both the smartphones evenly matched. Both come in with a 5.2 inches Super AMOLED capacitive touchscreen with 424ppi pixel density. This translates into a 1080p HD resolution. While we’re unable to specify the protection offered by the Galaxy C5, the A5 2016 features Corning Gorilla Glass 4 protection.

Both the displays are fitting and will provide users with an equally excellent graphical and user experience.

Cameras

Coming to the cameras, the Galaxy A5 2016 comes in with an excellent 13 megapixel primary sensor with OIS and an LED flash. OIS is one of the hottest camera features one can think off that is directly proportional with the cameras’ quality. Its selfie sensor stands at 5 megapixels which seems quite adequate.

The C5 on the other hand features a larger camera sensor worth 16 megapixels and a dual-tone LED flash. There’s one catch though; no OIS for the C5’s primary camera which means that the larger pixels won’t really give it an edge over the A5 2016’s snapper. Its selfie sensor is a different story though as it comes in with a size-ably larger 8 megapixel sensor which is finely poised to produce excellent selfies.

We’ll give the upper hand to the 13 megapixel OIS camera of the A5 2016 here as this feature is heavily responsible for crisp and detailed photography while in no way berating the C5’s camera performance as well.

Performance and hardware

Now this is where we believe we have a clear winner despite the smartphones featuring 90% similarities.

The Galaxy C5 features an Octa-Core processor with 4GB of RAM. We were quite astonished to see Samsung being this generous with RAM in the C5  making the smartphone finely capable of producing some seamless performances for its built-in Android Marshmallow. The C5 also comes in with either 32 or 64GB internal storage which is at-least twice the amount you’ll get with the Galaxy A5 2016; it only comes in a 16GB internal storage variant.

The A5 2016 on the other hand is also powered by an Octa-Core processor with 2GB of RAM. This might seem a dwarf amount when compared to the C5 but actually, the smartphone is a lot more powerful than its first impression suggests. The occasional lag might creep in one or two times but the built-in Android Lollipop will predominantly do well.

Now time for their similarities; both the smartphones feature a fingerprint sensor, large batteries and Fast Charge technology. All customary features that keep both the smartphones competitive in today’s market.

Pricing

The C5 with the better specs will unsurprisingly feature a bigger price tag than the A5 2016. Keep a lookout for their prices on our website; Galaxy C5 and A5 2016.

Their prices don’t really have a large difference between them which is why, splashing some extra rupees on the C5 might not be a bad decision after all considering the sleek metallic build, more RAM and more internal storage the C5 has to offer.

That brings this particular comparison to a full stop. We’re thoroughly impressed by what we’ve seen in the Galaxy C5 while the A5 2016 fully merits all the plaudits it is getting. We’ll declare the C5 as the winner by the finest of margins here but again reiterate that the A5 2016 is also a true gem of a smartphone.
