Build quality

The A5 2017 features a somewhat hybrid design inherited from the legacy Galaxy S4 and the latest Galaxy S7; this is because the device looks quite alike the former from the front while the back panel comprises entirely out of glass, protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 4, like the latter. The device looks pretty outstanding and it’s a pleasure to see Samsung moving strength to strength in their pursuit of producing something different year after year.

Its excellent exterior has further robustness added to it through the inclusion of IP67-certified dust and waterproofing; will this mark the beginning of dust and waterproofing in smartphones other than flagships? Only time will tell.

Display

The smartphone’s front panel features a 5.2 inches Super AMOLED capacitive touchscreen with 424ppi pixel density. Extending the legacy of its predecessor, the A5 2016, the display allows a sharp 1080p HD resolution. Corning Gorilla Glass 4 is its designated protector and a delicious combination of these two put forward a sumptuous user experience atop Samsung’s TouchWiz UI.

Cameras

Samsung’s cameras are genuinely among the best of smartphone cameras around the world. Marking a powerful beginning with the Galaxy S3, to-date, they’re acclaimed as the finest of the lot. The A5 2017 features another one of these and we’re quite happy to see its prowess which speaks volumes for itself; statistically, the smartphone features a 16 megapixel primary sensor with OIS and other customary features that include geo-tagging, touch focus, face detection, panorama, HDR and an LED flash.

The secondary camera is as big as the other with a 16 megapixel sensor of its own meaning one thing; excellence.

Hardware and software

The smartphone packs quite a punch under its hood; it’s powered by a 1.9 GHz Octa-Core Cortex-A53 processor with and additional 3GB of RAM. These are quite the traits one would expect from a 2017 smartphone and probably becoming the first of Samsung’s devices, it’ll come in with Android Nougat out of the box. Its internal storage banks at 32 gigs with an external memory card slot also present.

As expected, the device also features a front-mounted fingerprint scanner, fast charging and a large 3000 mAh non-removable batter promising good battery life. Four color schemes namely black, blue, pink and gold will compliment its anatomy which gives you more options to have a go at the A5 2017.

Expected price and launch date in Pakistan

The A5 2017 is touted to begin selling come March 2017. We’re optimistic that it might show-up a little earlier than expected but we’d advise you not to bank on that. Its price will be in close proximity to 46,500 rupees which seems a-lot for it. But in truth, the smartphone contains enough muscle to somewhat merit this price. But the question is, if the A5 2017 is priced this high, what will be the case with the A7, A8, A9 2017s?

Whatever the case, the A5 2017 is a genuine 2017 release with many features that truly reflect where the smartphone world is heading. A striking device featuring a slightly newer design, the A5 2017 is a definite yes!
