Samsung Galaxy A5 2017 vs. A5 2016: what’s the difference?

Samsung Galaxy A5 2017 vs. A5 2016: what’s the difference?

A characteristic that truly defines a successful entity is its constant will to improve. Improvement that isn’t based on the fact that its older releases were world beaters but an improvement based on this that it’ll not rest on its laurels and move from strength to strength; this is symbolized by the Galaxy A5 2016 and its successor, the A5 2017.

If the 2016 A series wasn’t good enough, the 2017 A series will surely catch your attention. Personally for us, the A7 2016 and A5 2016 were some of the best Samsung releases to-date primarily because of two reasons; a newer all glass design and a break-up of the hoodoo that budget Samsung smartphones cannot have powerful specifications. Everything has its time and the time has come for the A5 2016 to find an even more powerful successor in the A5 2017. So what’s the difference between the two?

Build quality and design

Beginning with the Galaxy A5 2016, the smartphone features a gorgeous build complimented by glass panels on its front and back. The glass gave a rigid feel and protected by the Corning Gorilla Glass 4, the device was one of the best Samsung devices to date. The smartphone looks quite alike the Galaxy A7 2016 from the front and back while its dimensions fully compliment its build as the device features a slender 7.3mm width and a 155g weight

.

Comparing that with its newfound successor, the A5 2017 features a similar all glass design that looks quite alike the Galaxy S7 from both the front and back panels. Yet again protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 4, the smartphone is a tad thicker than the A5 2016 at 7.8mm. That can be attributed to its IP67-certified dust and waterproofing which is an excellent addition the latter brings over the former.

Display

Both the smartphones feature a 100% similar display; the devices feature a 5.2 inches Super AMOLED capacitive touchscreen with an additional 424ppi pixel density. This allows both the devices to support 1080p HD resolution that brings sharp and seamless graphics on the front display while just like their back panels, Corning Gorilla Glass 4 protection serves the front panels as well.

Cameras

This is where the second major difference between the two smartphones can be seen. Starting off with the A5 2016, the device features an excellent 13 megapixel primary camera with OIS and other features that include geo-tagging, touch focus, face detection, panorama, HDR and an LED flash. Its secondary camera features a modest 5 megapixel sensor which packs more power than it seems on paper. If these two cameras seem excellent to you, what’s coming next will surely make you lick your lips.

Now, about the A5 2017, the smartphone brings improvements on both fronts over the A5 2016’s cameras; the newcomer features a towering 16 megapixel primary sensor with OIS and other features that include geo-tagging, touch focus, face detection, panorama, HDR and an LED flash. Its secondary sensor stands toe to toe with its primary counterpart as it also features a gigantic 16 megapixel sensor allowing you to capture detailed normal or wide angled selfies.

Hardware and software

Sheltering the third major difference between the two smartphones, the hardware and software category will draw a visible line between the two. The A5 2016 features a hybrid Octa-Core Cortex-A53 processor with an additional 2GB of RAM. This is enough power to run the built-in Android Lollipop and its internal storage banks at 16 gigs with an external memory card slot also in attendance.

Its other handsome features include Fast Charge, a front-mounted fingerprint scanner, large 2900 mAh battery and 4 different color schemes. Personally tried and tested by us, the A5 2016 is a true gem of a device with both aesthetics and specifications of the highest order.

If the aforementioned smartphone featured specifications of the highest order, the A7 2016 surely took them a step further. While featuring a somewhat similar 1.9 GHz Octa-Core Cortex-A53 processor, its 3GB RAM is what proves to be a significant difference between the two unexpectedly providing better performance on the latest Android Nougat (comes out of the box with it).

Its internal storage also doubled that of its older sibling and the external memory card slot can also be called upon to further bolster its storage capacity. Other than these, the newer smartphone houses similar features to the A5 2016 namely Fast Charge, front-mounted fingerprint scanner, a large 3000 mAh battery and 4 different color schemes.

There’s all you need to know about the differences between this latest A-Team member compared to its predecessor. As far as their build is concerned, the A5 2017 features similar traits to the A5 2016 apart from its dust and waterproofing. The cameras category brings further daylight between the two as the newer device features two gigantic camera sensors while the hardware and software category was the last testament to the nifty improvements made by the Galaxy A5 2017 over the already excellent A5 2016.
