Galaxy J3 Emerge: Specs, Expected Price and Launch in Pakistan

2016 has seen Samsung produce some of the most excellent devices we’ve seen from the company. Some have added gloss to already existing smartphones while others have banished memories of previous releases that were not up to the mark. The Galaxy J3 Emerge is not only a new smartphone but it also features a newer name, something previously never used by the Korean giants.

We’ve previously dissected Samsung’s naming schemes in detail but the “Emerge” keyword has appeared before us for the first time. Its specifications suggest that the J3 Emerge is on a mission to do what previous J3s’ couldn’t. Let’s see if it was successful in doing so.

Build quality and design

The Galaxy J3 Emerge is all Samsung from the front. The back panel is a different story altogether as it features a design not used by Samsung before. We’re pleased to see Samsung moving away from its customary design and smartphones such as the Galaxy C5,  J7 Prime etc. are a testament to that.

The smartphone features a finely polished all plastic build with a removable back panel. A plastic frame runs through it on which resides the smartphone’s primary camera sensor and LED flash. Its dimensions aren’t the most pleasing but they’re better than previous J3s with its weight finely distributed all over the device.

Display

The J3 Emerge’s display doesn’t really see much improvement be it its size or pixel density compared to its predecessors. The smartphone features a 5.0 inches capacitive touchscreen with 294ppi pixel density, the same as the Galaxy J3 2016. This results in a satisfying 720p resolution that goes somewhat finely with the front display. That means you’re mostly likely to have a good time with it but it’s the tech-savvy users we’re a little concerned about.

Cameras

Like the display, the J3 Emerge’s cameras also inherit most of what we’ve previously seen in the older J3s. We’re talking 5 megapixels of muscle in the primary sensor while the secondary camera features a 2 megapixel sensor. The primary sensor features all customary features which include geo-tagging, touch focus, face detection and HDR.

To be honest, we’re a tad disappointed to see the J3 Emerge featuring the same camera sensors as the J3 2016 that debuted just a couple of months before it but make no mistake about it, the smartphone’s camera are Samsung made that automatically guarantees good snapping.

Hardware and software

As was the case with the J3 2015 vs J3 2016, the hardware and software category again is the difference maker here; the J3 Emerge is powered by a 1.4 GHz Octa-Core Cortex-A53 processor with an additional 2GB of RAM. This amount of power is enough to seduce us in giving the J3 Emerge some serious thought and we can say this with confidence that the smartphone packs enough power to smoothly run the built-in Android v6.0.1 Marshmallow, albeit with some very occasional lag.

The device’s internal storage banks at 16 gigs of which around 11GB is available to the user. If that’s not enough, an external memory card slot expandable up to 256 gigs is there to your rescue. The relatively less obsolete Adreno 506 powers graphics on the J3 Emerge leading to better performance than previously imagined. If you’re a dual-SIM aficionado, unfortunately the smartphone doesn’t supports that.

The device is marketed in gray color only while its battery is a removable 2600 mAh one. That’s quite some capacity considering the J3s and its remove-ability allows you to replace it in event of its degradation.

Expected price and launch date

The Galaxy J3 Emerge is expected to begin selling in Pakistan come mid of January 2017. The smartphone is touted to have an expected launch price of between 12,000-15,000 rupees which is good for a smartphone of this pedigree. However, if it weren’t for smartphone manufacturers such as Infinix, Lenovo etc. we would’ve called the J3 Emerge a blockbuster as we’ve definitely seen smartphones with better specs within this price bracket. Be sure to keep an eye out on its optimized prices on our website.

So the verdict on the J3 Emerge is a relatively simple one and its standout quality has to be its processing power. Other than that, it’s quite what we’re used to seeing from the Korean giants but its tinkered exterior brings some form of uniqueness to it.
