Highlights

Motorola may longer not be one of the most highly sought after smartphone brands in the world nowadays but one should give credit where its’s due. The company has produced some of the very best value for money devices that have somewhat risen its stocks and at this moment in time, our job is to see whether the Moto G4 Play does that or not.

Build quality and display

The Moto G4 Play carries the “Play” surname (hard to notice, isn’t it?). This keyword is mostly associated to cheap, toned-down versions of a more pricier/powerful smartphone and such is undoubtedly the case with the Moto G4 Play. The smartphone may contain similar build quality and design compared to its predecessors but underneath the hood, a whole list of changes have been made to lower the smartphone’s price.

The first and foremost of these is its display. The Moto G4 Play features a 5.0 inches IPS LCD capacitive touchscreen with 294 ppi pixel density. This translates into a 720p resolution which is okay for a 5.0 inches screen. No Corning Gorilla Glass 3 here but the graphical performance should prove satisfactory, if not the best.

Cameras

The cameras department also sees some lightweight material; the primary camera features a rather plain 8 megapixel sensor that only has its megapixel to boast about but nothing such as phase detection etc. the selfie camera fortunately remains at 5 megapixels and we’re very relieved to see that happen. In short, fingers crossed when it comes to how these two babies will perform but we’re optimistic that they’ll come good.

Hardware and software

The Moto G4 Play is powered by a Quad-Core 1.4 GHz Cortex-A53 processor. When it comes to its RAM, it’s variant dependent and the Moto G4 Play is marketed in two of those with one being a 1GB RAM + 8GB internal storage one while the other is a 2GB RAM + 16GB storage one. We’ll advise you to go for the latter as that combination will ensure that the built-in Android Marshmallow performs well. Other than that, an external memory card slot and a non-removable 2800 mAh battery rounds-off this budget smartphone from Motorola.
