OnePlus is well-known among smartphone enthusiasts for producing premium phones at budget prices. They launched their first phone - the OnePlus One - in 2014 to critical acclaim, and are now preparing for the launch of the OnePlus 3.
As of typing, almost everything about the OnePlus 3 is already known owing to heavy leaks. We know the specs, we know how it will look like, when it will be announced, and when it will be released. With all that in mind, let’s get down directly to it. But before we do that, keep in mind that this was written before the official announcement so some specifications may change a bit.
The OnePlus 3 is a slimmer and lighter phone than its predecessor, coming in at 7.3mm thickness vs. 9.9mm and 160g vs. 175g. It has an AMOLED display that makes it more energy efficient on darker interfaces. The size and resolution of the display as OnePlus maintains a 5.5” Full HD 1080p display. Granted, it’s no 4K display but who needs that! Full HD is more than enough; it’s the colors that matter now.
OnePlus 3 will come with the latest version of Android - 6.0 Marshmallow. It will be powered by a Snapdragon 820 processor which is lighter and faster than last year’s 810. It will come with 32GB / 64GB storage variations and, more interestingly, some 64GB variations will come with a whopping 6GB of RAM. That’s simply astonishing for this writer, as he owns an iPhone with ‘just’ 2GB of RAM. The Android specs race marches on!
Don’t expect much of a hardware overkill with the OnePlus 3’s camera. In the Android camp, 12MP+ cameras are pretty much standard by now. The OnePlus 3 has a 16MP shooter on the back and an 8MP shooter on the front. We do appreciate, however, that the rear camera has a larger aperture so it should result in better photos at night.
