OPPO recently unveiled the curtains of its midrange flagship: the OPPO F5. Now OPPO introduces us to the slightly trimmed down version of the F5, the F5 Youth. Being more affordable than the F5, the F5 Youth is priced at Rs. 28,000; a perfect price range for selfie enthusiasts.
Describing the design of the F5 Youth couldn’t be easier, just look at the F5 and you’ll have your answer. Both the phones are exactly similar. The front is covered in a 6-inch FHD bezel-less display. Above the screen is the front facing camera. Next to it are the earpiece and standard sensors. The phone is encased in a metal unibody, since plastic would not justify its current price.
The back of the phone does not steer away in terms of design from the F5 either. With the camera placement exactly similar in the top left corner with the LED flash right next to it. The OPPO branding can be seen on the middle of the back. Above the branding is the comfortably positioned fingerprint scanner.
The screen of the OPPO F5 Youth is a 6-inch FHD+ bezel-less display covering most of the front of the device, just like the F5. The screen is an IPS LCD one, and the pixel density equates to 402ppi i.e. a crisp and clear display. Being an IPS LCD display, you’ll get excellent viewing angles and realistic color representations on your OPPO F5 Youth.
The cameras department is where the F5 Youth starts to cut corners, but is still by no means an underperformer. The front camera, which is the main attraction of both F5 models, is a 16MP sensor with an aperture of f/1.9 and each pixel is 2.0µm in size, meaning they can capture more light and details to make your selfies the talk of your social media circle. Sadly, there is no LED flash with the front facing camera, instead the screen emits a light when taking a selfie in darker conditions to compensate for the lack of light.
The front camera also has OOPO’s AI beautification software and a feature for face unlocking, in case you don’t want to use the fingerprint scanner.
The main snapper of the F5 Youth is a 13MP sensor with an aperture of f/2.2. It comes with features such as phase detection auto focus and, face detection and HDR. There is an LED flash next to it for your midnight photo sessions. Video recording maxes out at 1080p at 30 frames per second.
The main part that differentiates the F5 and the F5 Youth is the hardware specs. The F5 Youth comes with less RAM than its bigger brother, that is only 3GB of it. But that’s justifiable given the affordable price tag. Apart from that the storage capacity has been cut in half too to 32GB of internal memory. If you want to increase storage, you can do so with the dedicated memory card slot. The processor is the same as the F5, which uses the MediaTek Helio P23 octa-core chipset.
The F5 Youth comes with Android 7.1 Nougat out of the box, running on top of OPPO’s custom Color OS 3.2. The battery in the F5 Youth is also the same as the F5, a 3200mAh cell.
