At CES, Sony unveiled its newest trio of mid-ranger phones, one for each segment from low mid-range to high mid-range. We’ll be looking at the middle one, the Xperia XA2, which is priced at roughly Rs. 35,000.
A phone you’d want to show off
The Xperia XA2 is like any other Xperia phone before it, super stylish and elegant. To be more precise, it looks almost exactly like its predecessor the XA1. The phone is rather thick at 9.7mm, but at least that means it’ll sit in your hand more firmly without the fear of falling. The fingerprint scanner is now on the back of the phone instead of in built to the power button on the side, similar to the Google Pixel 2. The Xperia XA2 has a 5.2-inch 1080p display, which means the pixel density will be a pleasing 424ppi.
Midranger with high quality cameras
The biggest highlight of the new Xperia XA2 is its cameras. The main sensor is a 23MP one with an Exmor RS lens, with phase detection auto-focus and an aperture of f/2.0. The sensor is bigger than your normal mobile camera as well, being 1/2.3” and 24mm in diameter. Low light photography is also accounted for with ISO levels reaching as high as 12800! Video recording with the main camera goes up to 4K with slow motion video at 120 frames per second for 720p videos available too.
The front camera is an 8MP sensor with a 120-degree wide angle lens so you can fit more in your selfies. Video recording maxes out at 1080p.
Good hardware…but could have been better
The Xperia XA2 has your standard midrange hardware. Snapdragon 630 processor, 3GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage. However, there are a number of competing phones from Huawei and Samsung that have phones at this price range with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of memory at least. The battery is a 3300mAh cell, so it should see you through at least a day of usage. One thing Sony did take note of and did good about it is launching the XA2 with Android 8.0 Oreo, unlike some other manufacturers.
