Product Description

Apple has finally unveiled its latest flagship, the iPhone 7, after months of speculation and constant rumors. This year’s release was touted to be more of a performance upgrade to the iPhone series rather than going through with some revolutionizing. Many features were subject to much debate while some were anonymously accepted as sure-shot inclusions in Apple’s upcoming flagship. Here are our thoughts on the new Apple iPhone 7.

Build quality and display

The iPhone 7 was subject to many what’s and what not’s. Many credible sources around the world quoted that a change of color schemes will follow this year’s iPhones. Many believed that the new iPhones will now skip the famed space grey color and replace them with a newer deep blue color. They argued that this is definitely a step to add fresh blood to Apple’s devices just like the rose-gold color did in 2015.

This, however, has not completely been the case. Though Apple has changed its color schemes, the new iPhone 7 will now feature a space black color rather than the deep blue color. This space black color is similar to the space grey from the front panel as it’ll be all black while the back panel will feature a more darker and close to black color rather than the previous space grey.

The Apple monogram will now be completely made out of a chrome-like material that will further alleviate its looks as it looked stunning during Apple’s September 7th, 2016 event. The smartphone’s build materials aren’t quite clear yet be we believe they’ll be close to the aluminum 7000 series used to eradicated the bend-gate in the iPhone 6S.

The iPhone 7 comes in with some sleek dimensions which include a 7.1mm width. That’s absolutely stunning considering it supports waterproofing. Our apologies if we didn’t mention this before but yes! iPhone 7 features IP67 certified dust and waterproof technology and it weighs in at 136g!This is quite some achievement from Apple.

Considering its display, we’re disappointed to say that iPhone 7 only offers a 720p resolution. That means the same old 326ppi pixel density, dubbed the Retina boundary, on a 4.7 inch backlit IPS LCD capacitive touchscreen. While its display size was a foregone conclusion, we did expect the iPhone 7 to boast much more pixel density and at-least a 1080p HD display. None of that will be coming this year. Although, it will feature a 25% brighter display compared to the iPhone 6S which is the only improvement we can see in its display thus far.

Camera

The iPhone 7’s cameras were one of those features that attracted the most attention out of all other specifications. The rumor mill was particularly rigorous about the iPhone 7 Plus’s camera as it was said to come in with dual-lens, which it indeed did. The iPhone 7 however was expected to receive a different lens and some newer capabilities compared to its predecessor, iPhone 6S and it did not fail to amaze us.

First of all, it was expected that the newer iPhone 7 would receive a bigger and rounder lens that would be around twice the size of the lens of the iPhone 6S. That theory has now turned into a reality. But what’s underneath that lens? It’s a 12 megapixel improved primary sensor with optical image stabilization. It is said to be 60% faster than the iPhone 6S’s camera and also contains a built-in image signal processor which is known to amplify and further add power to any image you take from your camera.

It alleviates image color rendering, rectify angels and render low-light colors via a supreme machine learning algorithm that looks for objects in your photos and places them on a different layer compared to other non-focused stuff. This in-turn makes pictures even smarter and better than before.

The primary camera lens is supported by a Quad-tone LED flash that will now produce 50% more light compared to the iPhone 6S’s flash. Apple is also making use of 6-element lens technology which is said to further correct angles, aid color matching and lightening. An f/1.8 wide aperture lens will bring even wider pictures to the plate.

The selfie camera also sees some significant improvements. It features a new 7 megapixel sensor that Apple says contains auto-image stabilization and wide color capture ability. This is great news as the 7 megapixel sensor will fit in well with the new displays and provide better quality imaging than the iPhone 6S.

Software and hardware

Apple and supreme performance are a synonym. There’s a reason Apple has never compromised on this trait which is why year after year the iPhone turns out to be the fastest and the most powerful smartphone out there in the market albeit having lighter cores and lesser RAM.

This might just turn out to be the case once again with the iPhone 7 subject to some benchmark testing. Statistically speaking, the iPhone 7 will feature a Quad-Core processor with 2GB of RAM and the latest A10 chipset. Two of the cores in the processor are called high performance cores while the other two are referred to as high efficiency cores. Both are used for different purposes that require different amounts of power. The high efficiency cores work at 1/5 of the power of high performance cores and these 4 working in tandem are the reason why Apple has optimized the battery life of its latest release. Statistically, it is said to give 2 hours more battery life compared to its predecessor.

The 2GB RAM seems less but the latest software/hardware optimizations of the iOS 10 and the added muscle of the hardware will ensure that performance doesn’t get effected by even a whisker. The iPhone 7 is said to perform 40% faster than the iPhone 6S which is, in all fairness, emphatic performance. Not to mention the new 6-core GPU that brings 50% faster gaming responses and allows console level gaming experience to enter the iPhone world.

The iPhone 7 will feature a pressure sensitive home button compared to a mechanical one in the iPhone 6S. This definitely is an advancement as mechanical home buttons are more prone to getting messed up and the new pressure sensitive buttons add to the iPhone becoming slimmer. The headphone jack is another absentee as the lightening port will now be used as an EarPod connector as well. This isn’t the best of news as now you’ll have to carry a jack to lightening convertor with you all the time if you plan on using your old EarPods while the issue of charging the iPhone and listening to music via the EarPods simultaneously no longer being possible will soon catch fire.

That being said, we’d like to end our review on a positive note through the dual-stereo speakers which will now be a part of the iPhone 7. Stereo speakers were also one of those specifications that saw many different opinions but the iPhone 7 duly packs them; one at the top and the other at the bottom which promises twice the volume of the iPhone 6S. The new iPhone will finally oversee abolishment of the 16GB internal storage base model which will be replaced with a 32GB internal storage one. Other than that, it will come in with some staggering amounts that feature 128 and 256GB! Now that is a happy ending after all!

Its Price is expected to begin at $649 in the US which equates to about 66,000 rupees. However, as Apple does not officially market iPhones in Pakistan, expect it to begin selling in 1 lac rupees when it first comes to town. Its first shipments will begin on September 16th, 2016 to Apple’s official iPhone selling countries meaning it could reach Pakistan by the end of October. We’d advise waiting around 5-6 months more after its release in our country as that is the time period iPhones generally require to plateau their asking price around 75,000 rupees.
